At the Thursday, January 16, meeting of the Will County Board, members voted to delay an up or down vote on a mining and quarry project in Bolingbrook, at the corner of Essington Road and 127th Street. This was despite nearly three hours of public comment from residents near the project, as well as officials from Plainfield stating opposition to the project and calling on the board to kill it with a no vote on issuing a special use permit for it.
When the vote to postpone was approved by the board, there was a bit of commotion raised in the chamber by residents, who had given testimony in public comment. The final vote on the project now is slated to happen at the March board meeting.
Two other projects got the go ahead from the board. A special use permit for an events center, at 14151 W. Chicago-Bloomington Trail in Homer Glen, was granted despite an airing of concerns over future plans for the property surrounding it. A developer plans to build a subdivision, and the concern is the events center might not be compatible with that project.
The board also approved a special use permit that would allow the establishment of a group care home for seniors, at 7551 W. Hickory Creek Drive in Frankfort. Some neighbors of the group home told the board during public comment they did not believe the group home plan would be good for their neighborhood.
In other business, the Will County Board approved three more commercial solar projects. A 52-acre facility will operate in Monee Township, at 6952 W. Bruns Road. Also receiving permits were projects in Manhattan Township, along West Smith Road, and in Joliet Township, on property along New Lenox Road.
