Manhattan resident Kyra Baltas has been applying the tools of science, education, and conservation to become a leader in the conservation community. In December 2023, Baltas concluded a master’s course of study with a Master of Arts degree in biology from Miami University through Project Dragonfly.

Since joining the Global Field Program (GFP) master’s in 2021, Baltas has traveled to Baja, Borneo, and Paraguay and conducted projects that have made a difference in the Manhattan area.

Throughout her time in the GFP, Baltas developed a Master Plan – a kind of personal mission statement for what she wanted to accomplish in the program. In many of the master’s courses, Baltas designed projects that supported this plan, which culminated in a final portfolio – “Increasing Awareness and Importance of Ecological Restoration in the Midwest,” presented in a Capstone course.

Baltas works as a microbiology lab analyst at CSL Behring.
