The Worth Park District Board of Park Commissioners voted during their Aug. 15 meeting to unanimously reject the bids received for the Homerding Park Improvements Project.
“As a board, we felt this was the best direction at this time,” said Mike McElroy, president of the park board. “We could have moved forward with the project, but with the bids being high and having budget limitations, we (the board) wanted to be responsible stewards of tax monies to our constituents.
“The economy is showing some signs of improvement, and we expect conditions to be better in a few months, and we will accept bids on the project again,” McElroy added.
The project was awarded a $325,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Open Space and Land Acquisition and Development program.
The improvements to the park will include new playground and fitness equipment, an outdoor shelter, fencing, and a paved walking path around the park.
The schedule for the project is to accept bids in December or January and to complete the project late next spring, according to the park district.
The project site plan can be viewed on the park district’s website at www.worthparkdistrict.org.
