OUTLOOK: The RedHawks have plenty of experience on both sides of the ball to try to make everyone to forget about last year’s rare losing record.
Defensive linemen Brad Fitzgibbon (Iowa) and Achilles Anderson (Harvard) have made verbal commitments to play in college. Running back John McAuliffe, who has committed to playing at Cornell, will lead the offense after rushing for 1,184 yards and 19 touchdowns in 2023. Lincoln-Way East transfer Jake Ritter will try to snag the quarterback position.
New coach Mike Fitzgerald is ready to turn things around.
“I really like the leadership of the senior class,” he said. “We also have a strong junior class that is competing for sports and has created some good depth on the team.
“Our back-end defense is a versatile group that is athletic and can play in space but also plays downhill and is physical, which should cause some havoc.”
DID YOU KNOW? The last playoff game the RedHawks played was a 27-21 loss to York in the second round of the 2023 Class 8A postseason. Fitzgerald was York’s head coach.
