CONFERENCE: South Suburban Red
HEAD COACH: Phillip Rossberg
2023 RECORD: 5-5 (lost 43-0 to Normal Community in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs)
OUTLOOK: Coach Phillip Rossberg has his most experienced group yet, which he hopes will help the Argonauts reach the the IHSA playoffs for a third straight season. Until last season, Argo had never qualified for the postseason in consecutive years.
Argo has five returning starters on offense and eight on defense. Among those expected to make big impacts are Javoris Cotton (QB), Steven Holmes (RB), Jakub Jarosz (TE/LB), Maciej Jarosz (TE/LB), Jayvion King (WR/DB), Kacper Lobas (K) and Terryon Taylor (WR/LB).
Offensive lineman Muhammed Quad will help protect Cotton and defensive lineman Christian Zubek will be putting the pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
Joining the mix are junior newcomers Deuce Raynor (WR/DB) and Jack Gaines (OL/DL).
Rossberg is eager to see if this group can win a playoff game for just the second time in program history.
“This group has helped set the standard for our program,” Rossberg said. “Their combination of skill and motivation to continue to build our program has them excited to get back on the field and compete in 2024.”
