A Sandburg cross country and track athlete has helped raise nearly $10,000 for a charitable organization by running from Wrigley Field to Guaranteed Rate Field.

Jackson Canellis, a junior at the Orland Park school, helped raise $9,110 to benefit BEDS Plus via the Crosstown Classic Run, which he created. Canellis and seven Eagles teammates ran the 12 miles between the homes of the Cubs and White Sox on Aug. 10, prior to the two Chicago baseball teams playing the Crosstown Classic that day.

Sandburg seniors Jack Easterhouse and Luke Atzman; juniors Mateo Ramiro-Garcia, Myles Jacquez, Jake Crotty and Matt Miller; and sophomore Brayden Gaffud joined Canellis for the run.

Canellis is a volunteer for BEDS Plus, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping individuals and families who are experiencing housing insecurity in the Southwest Suburbs.  BEDS Plus provides emergency overnight shelter, supportive housing and comprehensive support services to those facing homelessness.
