Beginning a new school year is exciting for students and parents; however, families who are shopping for back-to-school supplies may feel overwhelmed by the expense.
So, the Evergreen Park Public Library, Evergreen Park Youth Department, and the Village of Evergreen Park are teaming up to host a School Supply Drive to benefit families in Evergreen Park’s School District 124 who may be experiencing financial hardship.
“Let’s set students up for a safe and productive school year, making sure they’re prepared and confident on their first day of school,” said Teen Librarian Mary Black. Youth Department Director Pyeisha Allen is focused on the needs of the youth in Evergreen Park and wants every student to be school-ready on day one.
“Our department is very involved in the community and we are excited about this effort to collect supplies for our schoolkids!” Allen added, “Our residents have always been very generous whenever the Village holds a drive for supplies, be it for winter coats, Christmas toys, or whatever may be needed.”
The School Supply Drive runs now through August 16. To donate supplies, such as new or gently used backpacks, markers, pens, crayons, scissors, dry erase markers, binders, notebooks, pencil cases, highlighters, and glue sticks, visit Evergreen Park Public Library, 9400 S. Troy Avenue, Evergreen Park Youth Department, 3450 W. 97th Street, or Village Hall, 9418 S. Kedzie Avenue to drop off donations.
Families are encouraged to contact their school to pick up school supplies.
