Shepard High School is kicking of the new school year with a new principal.

The high school, 13049 S. Ridgeland Ave., Palos Heights, welcomed Dr. Timothy Baker into the role of principal as of July 1.

“As principal of Shepard High School, it is my responsibility as the instructional leader to ensure that all resources are focused on delivering the best possible educational programs and support services to our students,” Baker, of Orland Park, said.

Baker earned his undergraduate degree from Illinois State University majoring in Biology and Secondary Education in 2001. He then went on to obtain his Master’s Degree from Lewis University in Educational Leadership in 2005 and finally his Doctorate Degree from Concordia University in Educational Leadership in 2021.

He also has several endorsements, including those in General Administrative – Type 75, Secondary Education, Biology, Botany, Chemistry, General Science, Physics and Zoology, along with his Superintendent License.

Prior to his role as Shepard High School Principal, Baker worked at Richards High School as a Science Teacher from 2002 until 2012. From 2012 until 2015, he served as Eisenhower High Schools Athletic Director. From 2015 until 2021, Baker worked as Eisenhower High School’s Assistant Principal for Attendance, Discipline and Activities.

In 2021, he began his role as Shepard High School’s Associate Principal; a role he served until 2024 when he was promoted to principal.

“I really enjoy the people here at Shepard,” Baker said. “The students and staff are top notch. They are passionate, creative and hardworking.”

He also thanked his fellow colleagues.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the staff at Shepard for all that they have done and all that they will continue to do for the Shepard community,” he said.

This coming academic year will offer many things; however, Baker said he is most looking forward to all of the great things Shepard’s talented students will accomplish.

“I am also looking forward to meeting all of our new Astros right here on Freshman Day,” Baker said.

Freshman Day will be taking place for incoming freshmen on Monday, August 12. This provides new students with the opportunity to see the school, enjoy classes and meet their teachers before the other grade levels enter the school.

Baker is already planning great things for the 2024-2025 school year.

“I am going to work hard to create a positive school climate and a culture where students can belong, engage and achieve,” he said.
