Monthly Google search volume of chocolate by state, rank, and volume includes the top 10 states: California, #1, 60,500 search volume; Texas, #2, 40,500; New York, #3, 33,100; Florida, #4, 27,100; Illinois, #5, 14,800; Georgia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina, #6, 12,100; and Virginia, Massachusetts, Washington, Ohio, and Michigan, #10, 9,900.
Beyond the Search Bar: A look at consumer behavior as the table shows, California takes the chocolate champion crown with a whopping 60,500 monthly Google searches for chocolate. Texas (40,500) and New York (33,100) follow closely behind, proving chocolate cravings transcend regional boundaries. While specific search data doesn’t reveal exact brands or types of chocolate, consumer behavior research offers some clues.
“Nationally, classic milk chocolate remains a favorite, followed by dark chocolate, and peanut butter cups,” Jason explained. “Specially crafted treats, like truffles and gift boxes, also surge in popularity around holidays.”
The Cultural Significance of Chocolate: The allure of chocolate goes far beyond satisfying a sweet tooth. For many, it’s a source of comfort and nostalgia.
“A steaming mug of hot cocoa on a cold winter day or sharing a box of chocolates with loved ones are traditions that evoke warm memories,” Jason noted. “Chocolate is also a symbol of celebration, with candy hearts and bunnies decorating Valentine’s Day and Easter baskets overflowing with chocolate treats.”

Jason continued, “California, known for its laid-back lifestyle, might favor lighter milk chocolate options for everyday indulgence. With its strong sense of community, Texas could be drawn to sharing chocolate treats with friends and family. New York, a melting pot of cultures, might boast a wider variety of chocolate preferences, from decadent truffles to international brands.”
