On June 8, at approximately 5:08 p.m., the Peotone Police Department responded to a vehicle accident on Peotone-Wilmington Road, just east of Division Street. Upon arrival, officers observed two vehicles – a minivan and a semi-tractor truck and trailer, both with severe front-end damage, positioned in the eastbound lanes of Peotone-Wilmington Road.
Damian Kwain, 49, driver of the mini-van and from Peotone, was found unresponsive in the driver’s seat. Manhattan fire and paramedics immediately began extricating the driver and providing medical care. Unfortunately, Kwain later was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Next of kin have been notified by the Peotone Police Department.
The driver of the semi-truck was uninjured in the collision.
Given the severity of the accident, the Will County Accident Reconstruction Team was called to the scene. Additionally, the Will County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) assisted with traffic control and lighting. Peotone-Wilmington Road was cleared and reopened to traffic around 11:30 p.m.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. The Peotone Police Department, along with other responding agencies, are committed to thoroughly investigating the circumstances of this tragic incident.
