Trinity Christian College names new hoops coaches

Trinity Christian officials were busy on April 11 ushering in new eras for its basketball programs.

Trolls Athletic Director Wendy Reid announced that Jordan Mast is taking over the men’s basketball program, while Jasmine Porter has been named women’s hoops coach.

Mast comes to the school in Palos Heights after five seasons as head coach at Antelope Valley (California). He was a three-time Cal Pac Conference Coach of the Year and racked up a 99-26 record while leading his team to three NAIA Tournament appearances.

This season was unique for him, as Antelope Valley announced it would close in early March. However, fundraising efforts allowed the team to finish the season, which including a Cal Pac Conference tournament title and trip to the NAIA tournament.

“His success on the court speaks for itself,” Reid stated in a press release. “But the difficulties that Jordan and his team went through this season, and the perseverance and determination that group showed in the face of those issues indicated what kind of coach Jordan is. We are excited to have him join the Trinity Trolls family.”

“My family and I could not be more thrilled to join the Trinity community,” Mast stated in a press release. “Throughout the interview process, every person at Trinity has been so welcoming and made us feel like we are already part of the family. I can’t wait to get to campus and get to work as the next men’s basketball coach.”

Mast is a graduate of Gonzaga, where he played basketball for two seasons, both of which ended in the NCAA Tournament, including a Sweet 16 appearance with the Bulldogs in 2006.

He takes over for Jason Hawkins, who coached at Trinity for six seasons. The Trolls were 6-22 this season.

Porter takes over the women’s program from Dominique Nelson, who was an interim coach in 2023-24. The Trolls posted a 4-22 mark this season.

Porter served for the past two seasons as assistant coach at Park University in Gilbert, Arizona, where she was responsible for player development and served as recruiting coordinator. The Buccaneers matched the program’s single-season win record this season and reached the semifinals of the Cal Pac Conference tournament.

Prior to that, Porter was an assistant coach at Montana Tech, where she worked to develop conditioning programs and scouting reports, and mentored student-athletes in their academic efforts.

“Jasmine is going to be a great addition to our coaching staff,” Reid stated. “She has a real passion for serving her student-athletes, both on the court by developing our players’ basketball skillset, and off the court with their academic performance and personal relationships. I’m excited to start working with Jasmine and having her join the Trinity Athletics family.”

Porter is a graduate of Utah State, where she played from 2013-15 after two seasons at San Diego State. As a member of the Aztecs, Porter played on teams that won a combined 55 games and earned an 11-seed in the 2011 NCAA Tournament.
