Swallow Cliff Chapter NSDAR awards students
At its February meeting, Swallow Cliff Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, held its annual Youth Awards program to honor the DAR Good Citizens Award winners.
Seven local high schools nominated outstanding seniors to be candidates for the DAR Good Citizens Award. To be eligible for this award, students had to demonstrate the qualities of dependability, service to their schools and communities, leadership, and patriotism. Once selected, nominees had to submit letters of recommendation, transcripts of their grades, and two essays – one personal and one timed about a given topic.
Good Citizens Award chairman Malinda Clickner-Poczynok presented pins, monetary awards, and certificates to this year’s winners: JohnAnthony V. Alvarado from Shepard High School; Theresa Brady from Evergreen Park High School; Jamal Awadalla Morad from Oak Lawn High School; Jahaziah Renee Morris from Chicago Christian High School; Natalia Muzurek from Stagg High School; Nathan Christopher Powers from Oak Forest High School; and Kristina Elizabeth Raloff from Tinley Park High School.
Natalia, an honor student with over 400 hours of community service, has been selected to advance to the DAR District IV competition. Because JohnAnthony was at a JROTC marksmanship competition in Ohio, his mother, Juliet, accepted the award in his place. Jahaziah and Theresa were unable to attend due to participation in school activities.
One of DAR’s main objectives is to promote education. Swallow Cliff Chapter was proud to take this opportunity to recognize some of the outstanding youth in our communities.
