Monee’s roster of restaurants serving specialty food is expanding, joining the ranks of Nad Tatrami and Labas.
“GrannyMa’s Kitchen is Monee’s newest restaurant,”  Village Economic Development Director Bill Barnes said last week. “Located at 25861 S. Governors Highway, GrannyMa’s has found a new home in the space that Cliff and Tommy’s once occupied. Once you enter the building, you will see the changes that have taken place to transform the restaurant into a welcoming family space.
“The question at the forefront of everyone’s mind is ‘What kind of food will they serve?’ Comfort food will be served, which is a good mix of Soul Food and hearty American-style meals,” he said. “The second question asked is, ‘Who is Granny Ma?’ Well, GrannyMa, also known as Mary Johnson, has two granddaughters, who affectionately refer to her as ‘GrannyMa’.
“She has been cooking homestyle meals for more than 40 years. GrannyMa’s Kitchen was open for business starting March 12 and will have its grand opening on Saturday, March 16.”
Business hours will be announced, he added.
During the village board’s February 28 meeting, Trustee Michael Wilson noted GrannyMa’s “had a soft opening, and it was wonderful to see the community come out and support a local business.
Also during that meeting, Barnes recapped “some of the developments that have been going on for a long time.”
The Dollar Tree/Starbucks project, he said, “is moving forward…and their plan is to break ground in April or sometime in May, possibly, and to be open by the end of the year for both, Dollar Tree – first and then Starbucks. To be located on Monee-Manhattan Road, Dollar Tree will have 10,000 square feet of commercial space, while Starbucks will be 2,500, with a drive-thru feature.
At the same time the Tractor Supply project is proceeding well, he said, with discussions now on traffic patterns and turn lanes, “right in, right out, direct access off Monee-Manhattan Road.
“So that’s moving forward. The groundbreaking will happen in spring of 2025, because there’s a lot of things that have to happen before that.”
