St. Laurence announced on March 8 that Roshawn Russell will replace Byron Burt as the Vikings boys basketball coach.
Russell was Burt’s assistant this season, in which the Vikings won the Chicago Catholic League White and a Class 3A regional title.
Russell previously coached at St. Rita and owned a 72-42 record in four seasons and the Mustangs, and earned national recognition during his time at his alma mater.
“Coach Russell brings a wealth of coaching experience and a strong track record of success to the boys basketball program,” said St. Laurence Athletic Director Tim Chandler in a news release. “He’s been an outstanding addition to the athletic department over the past year and I know that he will continue to elevate the basketball program to new heights.”
The Vikings were 59-52 under Burt from 2020-24.
“I’d also like to thank coach Burt for all of his contributions to our program and school during the time he was as head coach,” Chandler said.
