Looking for a place to hone your chess skills and enjoy a bit of competition along the way? A new season of the library’s regular chess league will launch at the Kankakee Public Library, 201 E. Merchant Street, on Saturday, January 20, beginning at 10 a.m. A one-time entry fee of $30 is required, with cash prizes awarded as follows: First place – $450, second – $280, and third – $170. Prizes are based on 24 entries.

Please call 815-939-4564 to reserve your space, and a full schedule will be provided. Note playoffs are May 4, June 1, 8, 15, and 22. The format will have 30-minute time controls and 30-second increments.

Players are encouraged to bring their own boards and/or chess clocks. There also will be a 3+2 speed chess side league, with a $5 entry fee.
