The New Year started off mild, but it wasn’t long before the winter storm hit. Peotone saw more snow in just the beginning of this winter (13.3 inches) compared to all of last winter (11.9 inches, data from peotoneweather.com).
Of course the timing wasn’t great either; it hit just for the Friday, January 12, morning commute – making the trip north or south on any of the main roads treacherous.
It turned to rain and back to snow, while frigid temps lead to icy road conditions Saturday morning.
A semi truck got stuck in snow on Main Street in Peotone Friday morning. The Green Garden Golf Dome collapsed after wind gusts and cold temps cause the roof to sag, and a light pole punctured the dome tent also on Friday.
The snow, rain, and subsequent drop to frigid temps saw property damage across the area, including a roof collapse in Morris.
The below zero wind chills aren’t expected to end for at least a week.
