Justice village officials spent a few minutes before their board meeting last week to celebrate the holiday season by lighting the village Christmas tree and other decorated trees in front of the village hall.

Mayor Kris Wasowicz lit the tree and wished everyone a wonderful holiday season.

After the tree lighting, the regular village board meeting was called to order.

John Williams of Hearne & Associates presented the 2022 village audit and said the village was financially sound.

Wasowicz thanked Trustee Melanie Kuban for her work with the completion with the audit.

Village Clerk Dave Kroll said the Lyons Township Assessor’s office was at Village Hall earlier in the month to assist residents with property tax appeals. He said 47 people participated, including some from surrounding communities as the event was open to anyone in Lyons Township.

An ordinance was passed to authorize an agreement between the Village of Justice, Willow Hill LLC, Waterton Laurels Exchange LLC, and Waterton Laurels Investors LLC for regulation of motor vehicle parking and movement in the parking areas and private streets and roads of The Oaks and The Laurels of Willow Hill Apartment Complexes.

This is a renewal of an agreement for the village police department to hand out tickets and provide traffic control.

Kuban thanks the volunteers who helped with the latest Justice Mobile Food Pantry. Over 100 vehicles were served.

Trustee John Obrochta thanked the village’s police officers for their service.  He noted that a Bedford Park police officer was recently injured and offered best wishes to the officer and their entire department.

Trustee Stan Ogorek mentioned four business in Justice that have reached their 10-year milestone.

They are Happy Days Day Care, 8455 W. 79th Street; Jay Ambe Liquors dba E&M Food & Liquor, 7758 Archer Road; Studio 5, 9000 W. 79th Street; and Sweet House Bakery, 8405 S. Roberts Road.

Each of the business will be recognized with a certificate.
