Peotone’s Blue Devils also began their basketball season at the Coaler Turkey Tourney, but came up short for the week.

On Monday, November 20, the Blue Devils played IC Catholic, which resulted in a 30-52 loss. Ruben Velasco led the Blue Devils with 15 points and 9 rebounds, while Hunter Becker added 7 rebounds. The Blue Devils were down by 8 at the half, but got outscored 16-7, which proved to be the difference in the game.

The next day, the team faced the Beecher Bobcats, with similar results, losing 39-60. Beecher was up by 8 at half time and by 12 at the end of three, but the Blue Devils could get no closer. Ruben Velasco again was the leading scorer with 13 points and 5 rebounds, with Brandon Weiss adding 8 points.

On Friday, Peotone faced their rival Manteno and were unable to come up with the necessary buckets for the win, losing 34-49. The Blue Devils were down 22-24 at the half, but were outscored 13-5 in the third quarter, which proved to be the difference. Brandon Weiss led the Devils with 16, Hunter Becker added 11, and Colin Emsweller had 6 rebounds.

To finish the tournament, the Blue Devils lost to Coal City 36-45 on Saturday. They were down by 9 at the half, cut it to 2 late in the fourth, but did not have enough offense to finish it. Leading the Devils with 14 points for the game was Ruben Velasco. The team, looking for a break, moves to 0-4 on the season.
