If you take a ride down Pulaski Road in the West Elsdon community, please notice the street poles. They are decorated for the holiday season, which is a nice touch.
Also, it’s time to celebrate the holidays with the CTA’s holiday bus and train event. The 62 Archer bus will be decorated on Tuesday, Dec. 12, leaving around 12:15 and 5:45 p.m. The Orange Line/Brown Line will have several dates with trains departing from Midway between Nov. 29 and Dec. 2. Did you know that the monarch butterfly has been Illinois’ state insect since 1975? Monarchs have bright orange wings with black borders. Illinois offers the species the crucial milkweed that they need to survive.

Well, 23rd Ward Ald. Silvana Tabares, along with Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias, held a press conference on Nov. 16. There the new monarch butterfly license plate was unveiled. This license plate will help support habitats for the monarchs. The license plate can be ordered online at ilsos.gov/monarch or call (217) 785-0005.
Things might be looking “spiffier” at the Harding campus of Sts. Bruno & Richard School. That would be thanks to Boy Scout Troop 42. They spent their time and effort fixing up the signs and playground.
The St. Bruno School Class of 1973 recently celebrated their anniversary. It looks like a Mass was attended and a get together. I sure know a lot of people from my class of 1974, along with some from St. Bruno’s class of 1974. Will we be having reunions for this “ever so big” year approaching?
Now this story is just perplexing to me. On Nov. 17 I came home from the grocer’s at around noon. The neighborhood looked perfectly fine. School was still in session. At 5 p.m. I took Oliver the dog out for his walk. To my shock, the garage that sits along Hamlin was completely covered in graffiti–and I mean completely. In broad daylight, with school in session, with people coming and going, the garage managed to get vandalized.
How could that happen? Oh well, we all must stay safe and that is what the Chicago 311 app is for, to report such things.
