Oak Lawn, Evergreen Park police arrest suspects in two bar robberies
From staff reports
Oak Lawn and Evergreen Park police worked in conjunction to arrest two male suspects following two bar robberies that took place on Oct. 10.
Police arrested Jarlen Loggins, 19, of the 7900 block of South Woodlawn Avenue in Chicago, and a 15-year-old male in connection with the robberies.
According to police, the two suspects provided voluntary statements admitting their involvement in the burglaries in both Oak Lawn and Evergreen Park.
At 6:30 a.m. that day, Oak Lawn police responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle parked near West 95th Street and South 55th Avenue, according to reports.
Officers located an unoccupied and running black Hyundai Elantra parked in the alley behind a business in the 5400 block of West 95th Street. The vehicle’s steering column was peeled and a milk crate containing several bottles of alcohol was located on the ground near the vehicle.
Responding officers were aware of a burglary that occurred at a bar in neighboring Evergreen Park moments before discovering the vehicle. They proceeded to conduct a premise check at BJ McMahon’s Bar and Grill, 5432 W. 95th St., Oak Lawn, and discovered the glass front door of the establishment was shattered, according to police.
Officers entered the empty bar and contacted the owner. Together they discovered that $150 was taken from the cash register. Attempts were made to force open a safe and the video games inside, police said.
A hammer and a mask believed to have been used by the offenders were also recovered, according to police.
While officers were investigating the scene, Oak Lawn’s 911 dispatch center began receiving calls of suspicious males running through yards in the 9500 block of West Shore Drive.
Responding officers located two males at a bus stop near 95th Street and Parkside Avenue who matched the description provided. Utilizing video footage found in the area, officers were able to identify the two suspects trespassing on residential properties between the 9500 block of West Shore Drive and the 9700 block of South Central Avenue.
Officers from both Oak Lawn and Evergreen Park police departments worked together and utilized video evidence to identify the suspects.
Police said they determined that the black Hyundai Elantra was involved in the Evergreen Park burglary. The vehicle had been stolen in the 6100 block of Newgard Avenue in Chicago, according to police.
