Two shot in Back of the Yards

            Two men ages 19 and 33 were shot as they rode in a vehicle in the 4400 block of South Wood at about 1 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 31. The older man suffered a graze wound to the head and was transported to Stroger Hospital. The younger victim was shot in the right shoulder and arm. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. Both me were listed in good condition. No one is in custody.

Say man violated order of protection

A 36-year-old Archer Heights man was charged with violating an order of protection after he was arrested at his home in the 5200 block of South Archer at 3:04 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 10. Alfredo A. Mones allegedly was on the premises, in violation of a court order, a CPD spokesman said without elaborating. According to public records, Mones was arrested at his home on Saturday, May 20 and charged with domestic battery.

 

Claim woman beat, strangled another woman

A 44-year-old Ashburn woman was charged with unlawful vehicular invasion and aggravated domestic battery after she was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service in the 7900 block of South Pulaski at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14.

Marilu Delgado, of the 7700 block of South Homan, allegedly forced her way into a vehicle and used brass knuckles to punch a 33-year-old woman, as well as strangle her, a CPD spokesman said.

The incident allegedly occurred on the morning on July 20, the spokesman added with providing further details.

 

Charged with domestic battery

A 29-year-old West Lawn man was charged with domestic battery after he was arrested at his home in the 3700 block of West 59th Street at 3:07 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8.

Miguel Mendez allegedly put his hands on the upper chest of a 27-year-old woman during an argument.

According to public records, Mendez has been arrested five times by CPD since 2019 on such charges as driving on a suspended license, using a cellphone while driving, disorderly conduct, theft and assault.

 

Charged with domestic battery

A 24-year-old Chicago Lawn man was charged with domestic battery after he was arrested in the 5800 block of South Kedzie at 7:22 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3.

Orlando A. Davila Millet, of the 6300 block of South Claremont, allegedly punched a 30-year-old man during an argument.

 

Say man drove stolen rental vehicle

A 30-year-old Wrightwood man was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle after he was arrested in the alley behind 2445 W. 79th St. at 11:36 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2.

Robert J. Williams, of the 2900 block of West 85th Street, allegedly stole a U-Haul vehicle, a CPD spokesman said, adding that police became aware of the theft as they responded to a “man with a gun” call near 67th and Western.

Williams allegedly bolted from the vehicle and was later found on foot.

According to public records, Williams has been arrested five times by CPD since 2016 on charges that included driving on a suspended license, obstructing identification, assault, burglary and failure to appear in court.

Arrested in connection with the incident was 25-year-old Tremaine J. Covington of the 8000 block of South Maplewood. He allegedly was a passenger in the stolen vehicle and was charged with criminal trespass to a vehicle.

A charge of aggravated assault was added because Covington allegedly pointed a gun at a 29-year-old woman while he was in the vehicle.

According to public records, Covington has been arrested 10 times by CPD since 2015 on such charges as gambling, retail theft, possession of a controlled substance, drinking alcohol on the public way, aggravated DUI, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, drinking on a license expired more than a year, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, criminal trespass to a vehicle, aggravated fleeing, resisting arrest, domestic battery and violating an order of protection.

Say man stole from Target

A 26-year-old West Elsdon man was charged with retail theft after he was arrested at Target, 4433 S. Pulaski, at 7:37 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13.

Victor D. Toscano, of the 5500 block of South Keeler, allegedly stole merchandise from the store, a CPD spokesman said without elaborating.

 Traffic stop leads to drug charge

A 52-year-old Gage Park man was charged with possession of a controlled substance after he was arrested during a traffic stop in front of 3014 W. 63rd St. at 11:14 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4.

Mario Cabrera-Betanzos, of the 5500 block of South Homan, was allegedly found to be in possession of heroin, a CPD spokesman said. Police encountered Cabrera-Betanzos when they reportedly saw him driving a vehicle the wrong way down a one-way street. He also was cited for driving on a suspended license.

According to public records, Cabrera-Betanzos has been arrested 13 times by CPD since 2017 on such charges as criminal trespass to land, battery and domestic battery.

Claim man violated court order

A 37-year-old South Side man was charged with violating an order of protection after he was arrested by members of the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force in the 2700 block of West 59th Street at 10:34 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2.

Mark Cook, of the 1100 block of East 91st Street, allegedly called a woman while he was in County Jail, in violation of a court order, a CPD spokesman said.

According to public records, Cook was arrested by CPD in June in the 500 block of West Taylor and charged with burglary of a school.

Found in vehicle reported stolen

A 20-year-old Bolingbrook woman was charged with criminal trespass to a vehicle after she was arrested in front of 2359 W. 59th St. at 12:42 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1.

Gia N. Simon, of the 300 block of West Scotts Court, allegedly was found in a vehicle reported stolen by a 41-year-old woman, a CPD spokesman said without elaborating.

This is the second time this year Simon was charged with criminal trespass to a vehicle. She was arrested on May in the 5100 block of West Augusta on the same charge.

Say convicted criminal didn’t register

A 25-year-old Chicago Lawn man was charged with failing to register with authorities as a convicted gun offender, during a traffic stop in front of 6500 S. Mozart at 8:31 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2.

Alejandro Covarrubias, of the 6400 block of South Francisco, was apprehended without incident.

According to public records, Covarrubias has been arrested six times by CPD since 2017 on such charges as unlawful use of a weapon, illegal possession of ammunition, domestic battery, failure to appear in court and possession of a controlled substance.

Bust convicted gun offender on drug rap

A 30-year-old Gage Park man was charged with possession of a controlled substance after he was arrested during a traffic stop in front of 6701 S. Western at 6:31 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4.

Mauricio Arellano, of the 3000 block of West 54th Street, was found to have a white powdery substance in his wallet, a CPD spokesman said. He also was cited for driving without a license.

According to public records, Arellano has been arrested four times by CPD since 2017 on such charges as criminal damage to property, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and failure to register as a convicted gun offender.
