Beecher: Thursday, August 31, in an away conference match against Grant Park, the Bobcat Varsity Volleyball Team came home with a decisive victory for the day, 25-16, 25-16. Emily Avelar was dominant at the net with 13 kills on the night, while Evelyn Jablonski came in support with 9 kills. The impressive hitting happened because there was great team passing. Their record now stands at 4-1. The girls will play their next game on Thursday, September 7, at home against Donovan.
Illinois Lutheran: On Thursday, August 30, Illinois Lutheran traveled to Donovan for a River Valley Conference match. The Chargers started the first set with a 7-point serving run by Marisol Tafolla and ended the set with an 8-point serving run by Kailey Van Es, taking the first set 25-9. In the second, the Chargers took a 13-5 lead behind 4 straight points from Anna Oestmann. The Chargers were able to maintain that lead and win the second set 25-17.
Anna Oestmann and Calleigh Garret each had 4 kills, while Kailey Van Es and Kimberly Danielewicz each added 3 kills. Marisol Tafolla had 4 aces, Kailey Van Es added 3 aces, Bianca Hurst had 6 digs, plus Anna Oestmann and Mia Jacobucci each had 4 digs.
On Saturday, September 2, the Chargers were at the Manteno Early Bird Tournament and began the day with an 11-25, 13-25 loss to Manteno. They then defeated Grant Park, 25-21, 13-25, and 15-10, which was followed by a 7-25, 13-25 loss to Watseka. The Chargers then played Clifton Central for fifth place, losing 16-25, 25-9, 8-15. Calleigh Garrett was selected to the All-Tournament team and had 8 kills and 1 block on the day. Anna Oestmann finished the day with 4 aces, 12 kills, and 29 digs, while Kailey Van Es had 14 assist, 12 kills, 20 digs, 1 block, and a block assist.
On Thursday, September 7, the Chargers hosted St. Anne in a River Valley Conference match. They took the first set easily, 25-8. Anna Oestmann served for 11 straight points, with 5 aces in the first set. The Chargers had to work for the second set. They were up 14-9, but St. Anne came back and took the lead at 19-17. St. Anne was at set point 24-21, when a Charger side out and 4 straight points behind the serve of Emma Nagle finished the set with a 26-24 Charger win. Anna Oestmann had 6 aces, 3 kills, and 6 digs. Emma Nagle had 1 ace, 10 assist, 1 kills, and 2 digs, while Calleigh Garrett led the offense with 6 kills.
The Chargers are now 5-6 overall and 3-1 in the RVC.
