Southwest Airlines pilot Nick Caulfield (left), a 1973 graduate of St. Nicholas of Tolentine School, returned to his alma mater last Friday to ring in the West Lawn school’s 114th year of providing a Catholic education to area boys and girls. Caulfield was the centerpiece of this year’s opening day theme (Learning Takes Flight), and Principal Mariagnes Menden, Ed.D. (center) and the school’s teachers dressed as pilots to add to the fun. Students and parents at the celebration were joined by 23rd Ward Silvana Tabares, St. Nick’s pastor the Rev. Miguel Flores, police officers, firefighters, costumed characters, Archdiocesan officials and other members of the school and parish community. Located at 3741 W. 62nd St., St. Nick’s is still accepting new students for the 2023-24 school year. Call (773) 735-0772 for details. – Supplied photo
