James Steele reported damages to local business Mayberry Junction on July 21.

This is not the first account of vandalism reported this summer. Manteno has seen various reports of criminal activity, including the knocking over of a porta john and the kidnapping incident that occurred earlier in July.

At approximately 12:20 a.m., Steele was driving his motorcycle on Rt. 50 when he saw the broken glass window of Mayberry Junction. Steele immediately reported the damages to the Manteno Police Department.

Currently, damages to Mayberry are estimated at around $750 but will likely cost more.

Mayberry Junction described the scene in a post on FaceBook, noting, “At approximately 9:50 last night, the front window was busted out from what is believed to be a BB gun…No one was injured, and no access into the building occurred.”

Robert Love Jr. confessed to breaking the window using a slingshot and was arrested for felony criminal damage to property. He was taken to JCDC.

According to a case report from Senior Officer Tobeck, Love was asked to leave Mayberry Junction earlier in the week after an altercation with the owner Arleen.

The report includes a comment from Allen Locasio of Mayberry, “He was racist toward our Puerto Rican waitress, and mom (Arleen) told him to get out a few days ago.”
