On June 13, damages were reported to the Manteno Police Department by Manteno’s Department of Public Works.

Eric Peterman was arrested for damaging property and vandalization. Peterman is known to law enforcement from previous incidents. Peterman was recognized as the perpetrator in video footage and social media comparisons.

Mike Piontkowski, Manteno Streets and Alley Supervisor/Complainant, initiated a call for service and the Manteno Police Department was dispatched to the Main Street Plaza Park.

According to the MPD Police Report, “Piontkowski explained one of the lights had been previously damaged and repaired by welding. Piontkowski suspects these light boxes have been criminally damaged, because of the amount of force necessary that would be needed to crack them from their pedestal.”

According to Department of Public Works Director Jim Hanley, each light costs approximately $1,000.

This incident is being forwarded to the Manteno Investigations Division for further review.
