Two new faces made their first appearance on the Kankakee City Council at the Monday, May 1, meeting.  They are Seventh Ward Alderwoman Lenora Noble, who was sworn in to replace Carl Brown Jr., who is retiring after 23 years. Noble will be the first woman mayor pro tem to the Kankakee City Council. The other is Third Ward Alderman Dale Tolly, who is replacing Michael Crawford, who chose to not seek re-election after only two terms.

Both the new faces on the council, elected without opposition in April, are lifelong Kankakee residents. Noble has an extensive background in business administration, worked 34 years for the telephone company, and currently works for a day care center. Tolly said he wants to continue to move forward efforts already underway by the city council to build a future for Kankakee.
Also at the May 1 meeting, the Kankakee City Council passed the annual street closure ordinance that allows for operation of the Farmer’s Market downtown every Saturday during the summer months. This year’s Market opened on May 6 and will continue through October 28.  This is the 25th year the Farmer’s Market has been in operation.
