Glen M. Thompson, 45, of Buckingham, passed away unexpectedly on April 21, 2023, at Riverside Hospital. His family is deeply saddened by this sudden loss.
Glen was born on February 7, 1978, and when it was his turn after graduating from Herscher High School, Glen took over the family business and became the junkyard man he was destined to be. He ran two salvage yards, while using the mobile car crushing equipment to help other yards clear out unneeded vehicles. It was a career he loved and one that loved him back.
Glen modeled his life after his father, George, by being loving, loyal, and generous. One of his deep passions was racing stock cars. Nearly every weekend during racing season, you could find him at an area speedway in his #14 race car. No matter what place he finished, his pure love of the sport kept him coming back for another loop around the track. Rest assured, Glen now is taking laps around a track we cannot see.
Glen is survived by his wife, Katalin; daughter, Grace; son Tucker; mother, Myrna ‘Mickey’; brother, Gregory (Nancy); sister, Ginger (Jason); and a niece and two nephews.
In lieu of a traditional memorial service, there will be an informal celebration of life for family and friends at a later date. A memorial fund for Glen’s children will be established for donations, with information provided at the celebration of life.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Gift of Hope Organ and Tissue Donor Network at www.giftofhope.org. Please sign his guestbook at www.schrefflerfuneralhomes.com. Arrangements by Schreffler Funeral Home in Kankakee.
