Therapeutic Tai Chi at the Library: The library is excited to host a five-week beginner course of therapeutic Tai Chi. At 9:30 a.m., every Wednesday in May, instructor Gary Paruszkiewicz will guide participants through gentle stretching, healthful breathing, moderate movement, stress management, and mindfulness. The course is designed for the beginner, and will take place in a chair. It is great if you are looking to try Tai Chi for the first time! This free program will be held in the beautiful fourth floor gallery. No registration is required.

Author Paul Hendrickson, “Plagued by Fire: The Dreams and Furies of Frank Lloyd Wright:” On Friday, May 5, at 7 p.m., author Paul Hendrickson will be at the library. “Plagued by Fire: The Dreams and Furies of Frank Lloyd Wright” is an illuminating, pathbreaking biography that will change the way we understand the life, mind, and work of the premier American architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Hendrickson will help those attending form a fresh, deep, and more human understanding of Wright. Join us for this special evening!

This free program, sponsored by Wright in Kankakee and the Kankakee Public Library, requires no registration and will be held in the library’s fourth floor auditorium. Questions may be directed to Wright in Kankakee, 815-936-9630, or info@wright1900.org.

Tuesday Morning Book Discussion: The library hosts its free and open to the public Tuesday Morning Book Discussion on the second Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m. The book discussion for Tuesday, May 9, will feature “A Million Reasons Why,” by Jessica Strawser.

When two strangers are linked by a mail-in DNA test, it’s an answered prayer, that is, for one half-sister. For the other, it will dismantle everything she knows to be true. But as they step into the unfamiliar realm of sisterhood, the roles will reverse in ways no one could have foreseen.

Artists’ Resource and Community: ARC was created to provide a space for artists to share their work and grow with other creative individuals. At ARC, members can give and receive feedback, but this is not a requirement and fellowship is welcome, as well. General meetings are once a month, with an additional meeting every month for figure-drawing and skills practice. Artists of all skill levels and mediums are welcome. It is recommended for ages 16 and up. This event is scheduled for Wednesday, May 10, from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m.

Lawyers in the Library: In partnership with the library, Prairie State Legal Services invites members of the community to meet with a lawyer on the second Thursday of every month, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Representatives from Prairie State will give a brief presentation on their services, and then offer free, one-on-one meetings with an attorney to give legal advice. All participants must complete a screening before speaking with an attorney about civil legal matters. May’s Lawyers in the Library event will be held on Thursday, May 11.

Kankakee Kultivators present “Annuals and Perennials: The Kankakee Kultivators Garden Club will be at the library on Thursday, May 11, at 1 p.m., presenting “Annuals and Perennials.” Josie Barnett and Ann Harms will share information about tried and true choices, as well as new varieties. This free program requires no registration and will be held in the fourth floor auditorium.

Nurse in the Library: Through a partnership with Ascension Saint Mary, the library is hosting a Registered Nurse (RN) in the library on Friday, May 12, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Access to the compassionate help you deserve is now just as easy as checking out a book!
