James C. Flory Jr., 68, of Bourbonnais, passed away Thursday, March 2, 2023, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee. Born November 23, 1954, in Harvey, he was the son of James and Mildred Cantrell Flory. James married Debra Buckley on May 24, 1983, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She preceded him in death on December 20, 2021.
James worked for the railroad for 25 years and also was the owner of Smokey Joes Restaurant in Crete. He enjoyed all Chicago sports and attending the games – especially the Chicago White Sox. He liked cooking, barbecuing, sports gambling, bowling, playing baseball and softball, and family vacations.
Surviving are sons, James (Amanda) Flory of Bourbonnais and Mitch (Natalie) Pendergrass of Elgin; daughter, Kelly Flory and Ron Horn of Kankakee; grandchildren, Tyler Flory, Robert Taylor, Collin Pendergrass, Caden Pendergrass, and Brianna Pendergrass; sister, Kim (Marvin) Hale of Crete; and brother, John Flory of Sauk Village. In addition to his wife, James was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Karen Moore and Haviland Tsilis.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the 2 p.m. memorial service on Friday, March 10, at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais, with Rev. Scott Henley officiating.
