James A. Feller, 77, of Herscher, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee. Born on June 14, 1945, in Kankakee, he was the son of Gilbert and Edith (Burling) Feller. He married Bonnie Meents on June 26, 1965, at Saint Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Herscher.
James owned and operated James A. Feller General Construction. He was a member of the Herscher Lions Club, as well as the Herscher Chamber of Commerce and was honored as their 2015 Citizen of the Year. He also was chosen as the Grand Marshal for the 2022 Herscher Labor Day Parade. James enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a parishioner of Saint Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Herscher.
James is survived by his wife, Bonnie Feller of Herscher; son, Timothy and Susan Feller of Herscher; daughter, Melinda and Kelly Duby of Clifton; grandchildren, Brandon and Valerie Duby, Madyson Duby and Kristian Sanchez, Blaise Feller, Delaney Feller, and Saige Duby; great-grandchildren, Abbott and Taytum Duby; and sister, Wanda and Dean Splear of Kankakee. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Donna Denault.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated on February 27, at Saint Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Herscher, with Rev. Ron Neitzke as celebrant. Burial followed at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Herscher.
