Overnight local road closures with detours will be scheduled on Roberts Road and 87th Street this week to accommodate mainline bridge beam removal on the Central Tri-State Tollway (I-294) Project.

The temporary closures are necessary to safely to complete removal of bridge beams on I-294 over Roberts Road and 87th Street.

Electronic message signs and construction signage will be in place in advance to alert drivers to each of the closures and detours. Up-to-date closure information will be posted on the Tollway website in the Daily Construction Alert. All work is weather dependent.

This week, daytime lane closures will be put in place as needed on Roberts Road and 87th Street. Flaggers will be used to maintain bi-directional traffic. No detours will be used during this time.

Beginning Friday, February 24, up to two nights of full roadway closures with detours will be scheduled on both Roberts Road and 87th Street under I-294. The local road closures will be scheduled on alternating nights between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. The roads will not be closed simultaneously.

During the Roberts Road closures, a posted detour will route traffic via 95th Street, 88th Avenue/Cork Avenue and 79th Street. During the 87th Street closures, a posted detour will route traffic via Cork Avenue, 95th Street and Harlem Avenue.

To accommodate bridge replacement work, traffic is currently reduced in both directions on Roberts Road and 87th Street. Traffic will remain in this configuration through 2023 for bridge work.

Construction in this area is being coordinated with the Illinois Department of Transportation, Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways, Village of Bridgeview, City of Hickory Hills, Village of Justice, as well as local fire and police departments.
