Kathryn Ann McCleary Huber, 76, of Bourbonnais, passed away Friday, February 17, 2023, at her home. Born May 21, 1946, in Kankakee, she was the daughter of Hal and Rita Mae (Hays) McCleary. Kathryn married Harold Frederick Huber on August 3, 1968, at Wesley United Methodist Church, where she was a member and served on various committees.
Kathryn graduated from Bradley Central School and was a 1964 graduate of BBCHS. She then graduated from Illinois State University in 1967 with a BS in Education. Kathryn retired in May 2001, after teaching fourth and fifth grades for 30 years in the Bradley Elementary Schools. She also taught at Donovan High School for two years (1967-1969) and Streator Woodland for one year (1969-1970).
Kathryn volunteered at Riverside Hospital for Meals on Wheels and was an office and bereavement volunteer for Hospice of Kankakee Valley. She enjoyed reading, playing bridge, and traveling. Kathryn was a member of the Bradley Public Library Board from April 18, 1993, to the present time, and served as past president of the board. Kathryn joined Delta Kappa Gamma Society in 1993, serving as president from 2004-2006. She also was on the Bradley-Bourbonnais Schools Federal Credit Union Board for 24 years and served as its president. She was president of Bradley Elementary Education Association, vice chairwoman of the Illinois Education Association Region 44, and a delegate to National Education Association Conventions. Kathryn was the retired treasurer of Kankakee Valley Illinois Education Association.
In addition to her husband, Harold, of Bourbonnais, she is survived by son, Mike (Lynne) Cline Huber of Warner Robins, Georgia; brother, Kevin McCleary of Coal City; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Sarah Huber Babbitt of Champaign, John and Maida Huber of East Peoria, and Al Huber of Bartonville. Kathryn was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Mya Huber; her parents; and brother-in-law, Holt Babbitt.
A funeral service was held on February 20, at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Homes, Bourbonnais, with interment following at Kankakee Memorial Gardens, Kankakee.
