Joseph H. “Joe” Grosso, 80, of Kankakee, passed away Monday, January 23, 2023, at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee. Born September 5, 1942, in Kankakee, he was the son of John and Katie (Ohrt) Grosso. Joe married Marie Hornback on December 2, 1967, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Manteno.
Joe was the owner of Grosso Construction Company. He was a hard worker, and his whole life was spent working, from a teenager through age 80. Joe loved going out to eat, reading, collecting vintage Nylint trucks, and birdwatching. Most of all, Joe loved spending time with his granddaughters.
Surviving is his wife Marie of Kankakee; daughters, Jeanne (Don) Essington and Cathy (Rich) Sanders, all of Kankakee; grandchildren, Emily and Katie Essington; sister-in-law, Sharla Grosso of Kankakee; and many nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, John (Jack) Grosso Jr.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, February 4, from 10 a.m. to noon, at Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral Homes, Kankakee, with private family burial held at a later date at Limestone Cemetery, Limestone.
