Two would-be carjackers picked on the wrong victim Wednesday afternoon in Oak Lawn.

Two men armed with handguns attempted to carjack an unsuspecting victim about 3:30 p.m. in the 6500 block of West 89th Place, Oak Lawn police said in a release.

The victim was able to gain access to a weapon and fired an estimated eight shots at the two robbers.

The men fled in a black Jeep Cherokee that was found abandoned in the 6200 block of West 90th Street.

Police said the men were seen getting into an older model white Dodge Charger driven by an unknown person and fled the area.

Police said the Charger appeared to have damage on the rear passenger door above the rocker panel.

Police said they did not know if either of the robbers were shot during the incident.

The victim was not injured.

The men in this incident should be considered armed and dangerous.
