Mary Regina Spencer, 91, of Kankakee, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2023, peacefully at her daughter’s home. Born January 5, 1932, in Streator, she was the daughter of Charles and Mary Bovard Kehoe.
Mary, who loved all things Irish, worked for more than 30 years at the Hostess Bread Store. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mary was also a “mother” to many throughout her lifetime.
Surviving are three sons, Curtis W. Spencer, David A. (Karol) Spencer, and Brian A. Spencer, all of Kankakee; two daughters, Sharon L. (Tim) McLaren and Lee Anne Gilbert, also of Kankakee; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Sister Elizabeth A. Kehoe of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two nieces; and one nephew. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John Kehoe and Robert Kehoe; grandson, Corey Gilbert; and her former husband, Oscar W. Spencer.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated on January 16, at St. Rose Chapel in Kankakee, with Rev. Charles Wheeler as celebrant. Interment followed at St. Paul Catholic Cemetery in Odell.
