Overnight lane closures are scheduled this weekend for concrete work on the northbound Tri-State Tollway (I-294) over I-55. Traffic delays are expected.
Beginning at 8 p.m. on tonight, December 9, and continuing until noon on Saturday, December 10, traffic on northbound I-294 between 75th Street and Joliet Road, traffic will be reduced to a single lane. Delays are expected.
Electronic message and construction signage will be put in place in advance to alert drivers to the lane closures. Up-to-date information regarding lane closures will be available in the Illinois Tollway’s Daily Construction Alerts. All work is weather dependent.
If work cannon be complete during this time, a backup closure will be scheduled for Saturday into Sunday, December 11.
The reduction of traffic to a single lane will enable the Tollway to complete the concrete pour for the new I-294 bridge deck over I-55 in one night instead of over multiple nights, reducing the inconvenience to customers. In addition, access to a larger work zone will allow for a single concrete pour, eliminating longitudinal joints and providing for a longer-lasting bridge deck.
This work is part of improvements in the I-55 Interchange area to accommodate reconstruction and widening of the Central Tri-State Tollway.
Construction in this area is being coordinated with the Illinois Department of Transportation, Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways, Village of Burr Ridge, Village of Countryside and Village of Indian Head Park, as well as local fire and police departments.
