Autumn is bringing a beautiful array of colors and crunchy leaves are carpeting our sidewalks. Halloween will soon be here. Kids and their parents are preparing costumes and planning on trick or treating. I love giving out candy to all the little fairy princesses, Frankensteins, ghosts and skeletons.

If you are looking for additional Halloween activities, I suggest bringing your trick-or-treaters to the Midway Baseball/Softball Association’s field, 6707 S. Keating, which is right next to Madigan Park, 4701 W. Marquette Road, on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 5:30 p.m. Midway Baseball is presenting their 6th Annual Trunk Or Treat event. There will be lots of candy for the kiddies and a costume contest for kids ages 12 years old and under.

Instead of going from house to house for treats, kids will go to the parking lot and walk from car to car. Parents and others can decorate their cars and pass out store bought candies from their trunks. If you would like to participate, call Josie at (773) 633-3625.

St. Mary Star of the Sea School is also having a Trunk Or Treat event.  This will take place on Monday, Oct. 31 from 4 to 6 p.m. at their north parking lot, 6435 S. Kilbourn. There will be treats, contests and lots of fun for the kiddies along with safe trick-or-treating from car to car in the parking lot.

Candy donations are also very much appreciated. Vehicle registration is required to participate and hand out candy from your car. Call (773) 767-6160 or send an email to smfa@stmarystaroftheseaschool.org.

Envision Community Services is having a Spook-or-Treat and Market Day at St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish Center, 4620 W. 63rd St. on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be local vendors selling their wares, costume contests, a photo booth and lots of candy for the trick-or-treaters.

If you are a vendor or would like more information, call Envision Community Services at (773) 899-2897 or visit them at 4324 W. 63rd St.

As you read in last week’s Greater Southwest News-Herald, police are inviting everyone to what they call a Community Conversation. It is set for 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27 at West Lawn Park, 4233 W. 65th St. This meeting is a continuation of their outreach to our community for our input in their strategic plan for 2023.  Call for more information at (312) 747-8724 or visit chicagopolice.org/convo.

The West Lawn Branch Library, 4020 W. 63rd St., has some fun events coming up. On Monday, Oct. 24 from 6 to 7:30 p.m., there will be a Brazilian jazz concert by the Luciano Antonio Duo featuring guitar and percussion. All ages are welcome.

On Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 6 p.m., Bob Trzeciak, host of the Paranormal Radio Show, will give a talk about famous hauntings around Chicago. This adult program will include stories about Resurrection Mary, Bachelors Grove Cemetery, Woodlawn Cemetery and many others. Registration is required. Call the library at (312) 747-7381.

On Monday, Oct. 31 at 12:30 p.m., Queen of the Universe School, along with Mary Mother of Mercy Parish and the Big Shoulders Fund, will host a ribbon cutting ceremony and blessing of the school’s new Sport Court. Guests include the Most Rev. Andrew Wypych, Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago; Josh Hale, CEO of the Big Shoulders Fund; and Greg Richmond, the Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Archdiocese of Chicago. The ribbon cutting will take place in the Queen of the Universe parking lot, at 7114-7130 S. Hamlin.  For more information, call Queen of the Universe School at (773) 582-4266.

Last but certainly not least, I want to say a big congratulations to my friends at Angelo’s Stuffed Pizza. Angelo’s was featured last week on the Channel 5 show, Chicago Today. They were celebrating National Pizza Month.

I am such a big fan of their pizza. I have eaten many of their superb slices over the years. Visit Angelo’s at 4850 S. Pulaski. They are open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Fridays from 11 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 11:30 p.m. Call them at (773) 927-9355. I hope to visit Angelo’s soon. Maybe I’ll see you there!
