On this day (July 29) in 1958, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed into law the National Aeronautics and Space Act, which then formed the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
I recently watched a TV special about the Apollo 11 moon landing and that giant step for mankind. What an amazing accomplishment! I’m still in awe of all the incredibly brilliant minds of those who made this happen and the bravery of the astronauts.

As we watched the moon landing on TV, our country united in feeling pride and gratefulness. Do you remember that feeling? May our country focus on the positive and let go of hate and anger, so that we can once again experience that united feeling.
Astronomer Joe Guzman and his Astro Crew will be presenting a program called Astronomy in the Park on Saturday, Aug. 6 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at West Lawn Park, 4233 W. 65th St.
Astronomer Joe will connect all visitors with the cosmos via telescopic viewing and instruction as he guides us across urban skies.
Also on Saturday, Aug. 6 at West Lawn Park, the Happiness Club will have an all-ages dance party at 6 to 7 p.m. This group of hip-hop kids will be dancing and tapping as they share a positive message. The West Lawn Branch Library, 4020 W. 63rd St., will be hosting a children’s concert called Rockin’ the Library With Mr. Stinky Feet. There will be singing and dancing especially created for kids as little as babies all the way to 8-year-olds with music featuring the Mr. Stinky Feet Band. The fun takes place on Friday, Aug. 12 at 11 a.m.
Envision Community Services will host their next Market Day on Saturday, Aug. 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event will take place at the St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish Center, 4620 W. 63rd St. There will be handmade crafts, jewelry, treats and much more.
Juan Valenzuela, manager of the Save A Lot grocery store at 4439 W. 63rd St., has announced that he is accepting applications for employment.
