Palos South Middle School students recognized for Say Something Week Campaign

Students in the Palos South Middle School Save Promise Club have been recognized by the non-profit organization Sandy Hook Promise for their efforts to create a more inclusive school environment.
The students were recently named one of the winners of the 2022 Say Something Week Award for their week-long campaign in March which included a different theme each day of the week. Themes included Morning Message Monday, Trusted Adult Tuesday, Work Together Wednesday, “Lucky To Be 118” Parade Thursday, and Photo Booth Friday. The students in the Save Promise Club organize activities and events throughout the school year to foster an atmosphere of inclusion and trust.
In the announcement on the Sandy Hook Promise web page, the Palos South students were praised for their ambition and creativity for their Say Something week campaign. Winners were selected based on the level of student leadership and involvement and program sustainability, along with the breadth and depth of the activities that students submitted. All winners will receive a $250 prize and an awards certificate.
“I really believe this award represents the most important thing we can possibly do in schools: Keep kids safe,” said Yerkes, Save Promise Club Advisor and Palos South social worker.
“The staff and students at Palos South work hard to do just that all year long, but “Say Something Week” is when they really shine. Nothing could possibly make us prouder than to be honored by Sandy Hook Promise,” she said.
Sandy Hook Promise is a national nonprofit organization with a mission to end school shootings and create a culture change that prevents violence and other harmful acts that hurt children.
