Summit to sell vacant lots for new homes
By Carol McGowan
Summit trustees have decided to sell off four parcels of property that were acquired when the village tore down abandoned homes.
The homes were torn down after the village acquired the lots and obtained grant money from Cook County.
The village intends for whomever buys the lots to build single-family homes on them as part of an existing village redevelopment plan.
In other business at their May 2 meeting, it was announced the public works department will be getting some new equipment including a Wacker Roller, Vactor Sewer Vac, dump truck and a new pickup truck.
In village finance news, the Village of Bedford Park will be paid $10,500 for EMS Services for the month of March.
The village board also approved a motion to amend an ordinance that will change parking rules for the 7500 block of 57th Place.
This came about after residents along that stretch had asked for Restricted Neighborhood Parking from 75th Avenue the alley, because of increased traffic and vehicles parking to go to businesses on Archer.
Village vehicle stickers will go on sale June 1, and besides being available at the village hall and police station, they will be available for purchase at the Currency Exchange on 63rd Street, just east of Archer Road.
Mayor Sergio Rodriguez made a Proclamation of National Safe Boating Week being May 21 through May 27.
The Village of Summit will also present Midwest Market Fest on Sunday, May 22, from noon to 7 p.m. at 7622 W. 63rd Street. There will be a farmer’s market, toys, tools, book, clothes and more. It’s free to vend and free to attend.
To register to be part of the Market Fest, call the village hall at 708-563-4800.
